Introduction

Welcome to the Directory of Studies in the Visual Culture of Religion. The Directory was initiated, and has been maintained by, the Centre for Studies in the Visual Culture of Religion, School of Art, University of Wales, Aberystwyth, in the United Kingdom since 2005.

Its purpose is to define (for the first time) the emergent discipline of the visual culture of religion. To this end, the Directory aims to map the activities of researchers (including professionals, students, and independent scholars) and teachers of the visual culture of religion and allied subjects. This is with a view to establishing: the nature of the discipline, and the various approaches to its study; the identity and location of contributors; and the range and extent of subject coverage.

It is hoped that, by this means, the Directory will foster a sense of collective identity, and inspire other web-based networks, and facilitate collaborative endeavours in research, teaching, and the dissemination of ideas through associations, conferences, joint projects, programmes, and publications. In short, the Directory seeks to recognize and realize, as yet, unseen possibilities.

The information that you submit to the Directory will be (with your permission) added to an internet database. In the future, the database will be fully accessible to registered users. (Full details regarding registration and access will be announced on this web site shortly.)

The Submission Form (following this page) allows you to deposit a personal profile comprising contact details, and information about your academic position, institutional affiliations, and activities in research, teaching, and publications principally. Please try to enter as much information as accurately and in as many fields as you can. The more comprehensive the database is, the more useful it will be to you and other scholars subsequently.

If you have any problems accessing or completing the Submission Form or questions regarding the Directory, please contact the Directory Administrator at csvcr@aber.ac.uk.
